how do I write a good speech?
I have to do a speech (for a contest) about something that has changed my life, but the problem is I don't really know how to make it good..I don't really know how to write it without sounding like I'm talking ''ohh pity me'' mumbo jumbo.. how should I go about structuring the speech? this is what I have so far : body: My hair started falling out excessively during middle school: one of the worst times to have hair loss. At that time my hair was my biggest pride. I had long, thick curly hair that went down my back and everyone would always compliment me on my hair. I was in love with my hair. I pitied other people for not having my hair. Losing it damaged the only confidence I had. Eventually, everyone at school started to notice my hair loss. Elementary and Middle school kids are pretty cruel to their classmates, and I experienced this cruelty for basically everyday of my middle school life. The little bit of self confidence that I had got destroyed. Even my friends would sometimes crack some jokes about me.I thought that no one loved me, and that my family only loved me because they had to. My trust in people lessened and lessened as I became more introverted. I started to fake illnesses so I wouldn?t have to go to school. One time after being in a snow sled accident in 7th grade, I lied and said my back hurt so I couldn?t walk around. I didn?t go to school for two whole weeks. Other times I would do things like make fake batches of throw up and ?vomit? in school so that I would have to be sent home. I was a depressed child. I had suicidal thoughts everyday, and all I felt was self pity and sadness. My usual activity consisted of looking at old pictures of my hair, and then going to stare at my bald spots in the mirror and cry some more. My mother took me to different dermatologists and they gave me different treatments, but nothing worked. Eventually all my eyebrows and the eyelashes on my left eye fell off. My hair on my head became so thin that I had to start wearing a wig in 8th grade. Conclusion: Alopecia has changed my life immensely. I have been going through an emotional roller coaster for basically most of my life because of it. I have leaned the meaning of acceptance and trust. I am aware of other people?s feelings more and I often try to put myself in other people?s shoes. When I see someone who has a mental or physical problem, before thinking anything mean I stop myself and think, ? who do you think you are judging that person? You didn?t like being judged when you had no hair?. This may sound like a silly thought, but it really helps me to keep myself in check.
